The Iowa Intellectual Property Law Association (IIPLA) named Wapello, Iowa native Neil Hoehle 2010 Iowa Inventor of the Year at a ceremony held Friday, October 15. This award is given to Iowa inventors who make the most significant contributions to improving the way of life for Iowans and mankind through their inventions. Mr. Hoehle is recognized for his development of a pressure balanced shaft seal assembly.

Jay R. Hamilton and Charles A. Damschen, Patent Attorneys with Hamilton IP Law, PC introduced Mr. Hoehle at the IIPLA’s awards banquet with a presentation on the background of Inpro/Seal, the inventor and the invention.  “Each year many new and important inventions, both commercial and industrial, are created and patented by Iowans.  To receive this distinction from IIPLA is truly an honor,” expressed Mr. Hoehle and then added, “As a native-born Iowan, to be singled out as having created the most significant invention of the year by my home state is quite special.” 

Mr. Hoehle attended the University of Iowa and received his bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University and an MBA from the University of Iowa.  He began his career as an intern at Inpro/Seal in 1981 and is currently Director of Sales & Engineering.  He is a co-inventor on numerous patents and patent applications. Mr. Hoehle explains, “This product conserves energy, increases reliability and reduces environmental contamination for our industrial customers, including many here in Iowa.  Though it is an industrial product, it is one of those cogs in the economic wheel that keeps things working.  It helps preserve our Iowa manufacturing base by keeping our companies competitive.”
